Blogging for Beginners
A blog (a contraction of the term “Web log“) is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order
Think of a blog as an online newspaper. Articles or “posts” contain recent information going on at ChurchForFamily.
On the frontpage, the most recent post excerpts are listed (no matter what their category) so that lengthy posts won’t take up the whole page. The most recent post is always the first post you see on the blog frontpage, accessed by going to churchforfamily.com/blog or whenever you click the “blog” graphic at the top.
Getting Around
The front page lists 6 excerpts from recent posts. At the bottom of the blog you can click to view older posts. Each post has a clickable title which links to that post’s “permalink”. A “permalink” is a page where an entire single post is listed. At the bottom of the post you can leave a comment.
Categories
Like the “sports” and “entertainment” sections of a newspaper, category links filter out information in the blog according to subject.
If you click “sermons”, only the sermon posts will be listed in the blog. If you twirl down the black arrow next to sermons you can access sub-categories within. For example, you can filter out all sermons except sermons from 2008 or twirl down “2008″ to choose to see only a specific sermon series.
Commenting
You can leave comments on posts and reply to other’s comments. If you’re not already at the post’s permalink, click the post title to go there. At the bottom of the post you can view comments and “leave a reply”. At the end of each posted comment there is a link to “Reply to” – click here if you wish to reply directly to a comment someone made.
